about

Innovative Nordic folk music blending new tradition with ancient melodies and the stuff of legend.

“A journey through Nordic sites and legends, or perhaps to unexplored corners of our imagination. A piece of art that you will cling to and delight in for a very long time”.

Vallfärd och Viljevandring, Huldreslåt’s debut album, is indeed a journey through Nordic sites and legends, or perhaps to unexplored corners of our imagination. These are captivating stories told on seemingly familiar languages, yet some Oriental instruments and modal scales sound, adding a pinch of a tempting unknown.

Beautiful, brave arrangements effortlessly invite you to join; they simply make a world emerge where you suddenly find yourself stepping on the seashore of a past, where open fifths fill the air with thrill, and where dissonant harmonies tense your curiosity. And yet, the integrity of the musical narration is never broken: a tranquil majesty of ballads interlaces with lush orchestrations; instrumental pieces, though independent, are inseparable from songs.

The spirit of an experiment is present in almost every piece through original compositions, arrangements, musical forms, instruments, or rhythms, and the whole album has the power to evoke emotional and visual images. That, along with their fearless desire to reveal and put together particularities of very different culture traditions – Nordic and Mediterranean –, makes this album a piece of art that you will cling to and delight in for a very long time.

If you like Nordic folk music in the style of Ranarim, Garmarna, Triakel, Hedningarna and Värttinä, this is definitely a record for you.
